windows 11 bootable usb download
Having a Windows 11 bootable USB can be useful as it can be used to upgrade a PC’s Windows version or repair the software in case of a failure. In this tutorial, we will download the Windows 11 ISO file from the Windows website and create a bootable USB using Rufus.
Steps to creating a Windows 11 bootable USB
Visit the Windows website to download the ISO file. Once on the page, navigate to the section “Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices” and click on download.
After downloading the ISO file, go to Rufus website and download the latest version. Then, click the downloaded Rufus exe file and run it.
Note: The USB should be a minimum of 4GB. 8GB and above is highly recommended.
How to set up Rufus
Open Rufus and it will automatically pick up the connected USB drive
Proceed to select the ISO file you just downloaded. I did not download Windows 11 but I have an Ubuntu iso file. Just select the Windows 11 ISO file you downloaded.
Leave all the default settings and click on Start.
Once this process is done, your Windows 11 bootable USB is ready for use.
Things to note before upgrading any PC
- The system has to have a 64-bit CPU: go to Settings > System > About, or search “System Information” in Windows and look under “System Type.”
- Meets system requirements: You can read Windows 11 device specifications here.
